Junior golfers across the country will now be able to experience the thrill of competition in The Rick Smith Junior Team Championship hosted by Rick Smith at Treetops August 23rd - 26th, 2009.
This event is open to all golfers ages 18 and under who are not yet in college. Teams are comprised of five players representing the same golf club or course. They will play individual stroke play over 54-holes in three days. The best 4 of 5 scores each round will count towards a team score to compete against those of other clubs and courses from across the country.
Juniors will receive instruction from Rick Smith and his award-winning staff from the Rick Smith Academy. To read more about this exciting Junior competition and obtain the entry form, please click here.

“Jelly Roll Blues Band” Under The Pavilion - June 19, 2009

The Jelly Roll Blues Band has been a longstanding favorite band of locals and tourists, performing throughout thearea for over 25 years, entertaining people of all ages with their fascinating blend of multiple styles of music,featuring blues, rock, jazz, and swin
You can find them all over Michigan, playing local clubs, parties, weddings, and festivals.
They have recorded some of their own original music, and even have a vinyl album totheir credit.
This talented group consists of Craig Stadtmiller on keyboards, John Povolo on guitar, Bobby Crosser on bass, and Bill Riesenbeck on the drums.
Between them, there is over 100 years of musical experience!

The Gaylord Area Chamber of Commerce presents Alpenfest ®. Expect five days of festivities including a parade, carnival, kid’s games and contests, pancake breakfast, ethnic food, stages with live entertainment and the World’s Largest Coffee Break. This is a true community celebration! Gaylord, a vacation destination in central northern Michigan, will be hosting its’ 45th Annual Alpenfest ® on July 14-18th. Alpenfest ® attracts not only local residents but also frequent vacationers enjoying the beautiful Michigan summer days. Additionally, it is Gaylord’s unofficial annual homecoming weekend, with former residents returning to enjoy the festivities.
The weekly entertainment features the traditional Alpenfest ® Queen’s Pageant, The Young Americans and “New Odyssey” will return, Alpenfest ® will welcome rising country star Anita Cochran and Kentucky Strait Band, the Saline Fiddlers, Northern Michigan’s favorites “The Pub Runners”, the Irish Dance Company of Lansing, and for the 2009 Alpenfest ® finale “The Kentucky Headhunters”.

Treetops is offering employees of the automotive industry and their related suppliers an affordable golf vacation that gives back to the guest’s local community.
How do we do that? Simple! Our “PLAY IT FORWARD” golf package is a rare opportunity for anyone remotely related to the automotive industry including suppliers and dealerships to play unlimited golf (never before offered during the heart of the golf season at Treetops) at a great rate! Treetops will then donate a portion of that package to a charity within the guest’s own community.
The “PLAY IT FORWARD” Package starts at $159 per person, per night based on double occupancy in a Standard Inn room. Guests may stay in the Lodge for $185 per person, per night on the same package. UNLIMITED Golf, cart, use of the driving range, use of the fitness facilites and hot tubs are all included in this unique vacation package. And don’t forget, Treetops will “PAY IT FORWARD” by making a donation from the package to guest’s local community!

Fiber Arts Festival at Castle Farms - July 25 & 26, 2009

If you think of oatmeal when you think of fiber - think again! It’s a shopping extravaganza as Castle Farms hosts more than 50 vendors with hand made goods including sweaters, original lace shawls, hats, mittens, soaps, rugs, knitting accessories, painted yarn, alpaca products, and much more.
While at the festival, you’ll also be able to visit live animals; enjoy interactive demonstrations in weaving, spinning, natural dyeing and felting; watch sheep dogs at work; see how sheep are shorn and visit with vendors who are fiber artists and shepherds in their own right. The popular fiber art fashion show takes place each afternoon. Many of the items in the fashion show are original designs created using fiber from Michigan farms.

Meet Our Instructors
The Rick Smith Golf Academy is headed by one of the nation’s most celebrated instructors. With his undisputed expertise in the intricacies of the golf swing, Rick Smith has shared his wealth of understanding of the game with players of all abilities. From recreational golfer to winners on the PGA Tour, Rick smith is recognized as one of the top instructors in the world. PGA Tour players such as Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Lee Janzen, Rocco Mediate, Jerry Kelly, Matt Kutchar and many others have utilized Rick’s guidance. The philosophy of Rick Smith and his Academy Instructors is to develop the highest potential in every player regardless of skill level. Rick and his staff achieve success though solid fundamentals, clear communication, state-of-the-art video analysis technology, and the lowest student-to teacher ratio in the industry of 2:1.
Rick has imparted his knowledge of the game to millions of television viewers with his Rick Smith Signature series and the Rick Smith Practice Tee on ESPN’s Inside the PGA Tour. Recognized as one of golf’s top instructors in the country, Rick has been selected as spokesperson for some of the world’s top companies.
Henry Young, Director of Instruction, leads the Rick Smith Golf Academy with dedication, enthusiasm, and a wealth of experience. He has been a member of the PGA since 1971 and has headed the Rick Smith Golf Academy since its inception in 1990. A long time friend and teaching colleague of Rick’s, he shares the same concepts and philosophies of golf instruction. Henry is well knowledge of the swing and the game, dedication to the teaching/learning process, and the ability to communicate to his students with genuine interest in their improvement. His career has been devoted to helping students who range from juniors and college players to club professionals, beginners, and tour players. A graduate of Duke University, a four year golf team member and team captain. Henry is consistently ranked by various golf magazines as a “Top teacher in the State” and former Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year.
Jason Guss is one of the brightest and talented young instructors in the country. This is evidenced by his inclusion onto a national magazine’s list of top 10 instructors in the state of Michigan, and top 20 teachers in America under the age of 40, as well as the trust shown him by both the LPGA and PGA tour professionals he counsels. Jason’s enthusiasm, personality, communicative skills and in-depth knowledge of the golf swing makes him an invaluable member of our staff. In addition to his work with professionals, Jason is involved with all our academy programs and instructs players of any skill level.
Jason graduated from the Ferris State golf program with honors. Has been a member of the PGA of America since 2004 and has been a Rick Smith Golf Academy Instructor since 2001 as Senior Academy Instructor.

Treetops Ladies Golf Escape 2009

Treetops’ Ladies Golf Escape is open to all ladies, from beginners to seasoned players. Clinic-style instruction will focus on the short game and full swing while improving each student’s overall knowledge of the game of golf. Treetops’ own Judy Mason, LPGA Instructor, creates an unintimidating environment that promotes better, easier learning. Classes are limited to 30 students per school with a student to teacher ratio of 6 to 1. Lessons are given 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. daily at Treetops North.
