The Tournament
This 4-person scramble is an 18-hole event to kick off the season that offers your team the option of playing either the Fazio “Premier” Course or the Smith “Signature” Course. Gross and net prizes will be handed out based on the results from each course.

This event is open to all golfers ages 18 and under who are not yet in college. Teams are comprised of five players representing the same golf club or course. They will play individual stroke play over 54-holes in three days. The best 4 of 5 scores each round will count towards a team score to compete against those of other clubs and courses from across the country.

Meet Our Instructors

The Rick Smith Golf Academy is headed by one of the nation’s most celebrated instructors. With his undisputed expertise in the intricacies of the golf swing, Rick Smith has shared his wealth of understanding of the game with players of all abilities. From recreational golfer to winners on the PGA Tour, Rick smith is recognized as one of the top instructors in the world. PGA Tour players such as Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Lee Janzen, Rocco Mediate, Jerry Kelly, Matt Kutchar and many others have utilized Rick’s guidance. The philosophy of Rick Smith and his Academy Instructors is to develop the highest potential in every player regardless of skill level. Rick and his staff achieve success though solid fundamentals, clear communication, state-of-the-art video analysis technology, and the lowest student-to teacher ratio in the industry of 2:1.

Rick has imparted his knowledge of the game to millions of television viewers with his Rick Smith Signature series and the Rick Smith Practice Tee on ESPN’s Inside the PGA Tour. Recognized as one of golf’s top instructors in the country, Rick has been selected as spokesperson for some of the world’s top companies.

Henry Young, Director of Instruction, leads the Rick Smith Golf Academy with dedication, enthusiasm, and a wealth of experience. He has been a member of the PGA since 1971 and has headed the Rick Smith Golf Academy since its inception in 1990. A long time friend and teaching colleague of Rick’s, he shares the same concepts and philosophies of golf instruction. Henry is well knowledge of the swing and the game, dedication to the teaching/learning process, and the ability to communicate to his students with genuine interest in their improvement. His career has been devoted to helping students who range from juniors and college players to club professionals, beginners, and tour players. A graduate of Duke University, a four year golf team member and team captain. Henry is consistently ranked by various golf magazines as a “Top teacher in the State” and former Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year.

Jason Guss is one of the brightest and talented young instructors in the country. This is evidenced by his inclusion onto a national magazine’s list of top 10 instructors in the state of Michigan, and top 20 teachers in America under the age of 40, as well as the trust shown him by both the LPGA and PGA tour professionals he counsels. Jason’s enthusiasm, personality, communicative skills and in-depth knowledge of the golf swing makes him an invaluable member of our staff. In addition to his work with professionals, Jason is involved with all our academy programs and instructs players of any skill level.

Jason graduated from the Ferris State golf program with honors. Has been a member of the PGA of America since 2004 and has been a Rick Smith Golf Academy Instructor since 2001 as Senior Academy Instructor.
